Vancouver - BC Liberal leadership candidate Andrew Wilkinson issued the following statement:
"Tomorrow marks seventy-three years since the liberation of the death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau - a symbol of the Holocaust and the tyranny and depravity of the Nazis.
"We commemorate International Holocaust Remembrance Day by remembering the millions of innocent men, women and children - six million of them Jewish - who were brutally murdered in systematic fashion by an evil regime. We also honour the courage and resilience of those who survived and continue to tell their stories. And, we reaffirm our commitment to educating future generations about the atrocities of the Shoah, and to stand against intolerance, prejudice and hatred - in all its forms and wherever it exists.
"Conflict continues to rage in many parts of the world and innocent civilians are targeted due to religion, ethnicity, political beliefs, sexuality and gender. In British Columbia, we recognize that we are fortunate to live in a province where we celebrate diversity and stand up for the rights of one another.
"On this day, We Remember and we recommit to Never Again."
